Chapter One

When Belle leaves the Dark Castle for a second time, it takes a bit more planning than Rumpelstiltskin would perhaps enjoy. But he can just go ahead and wedge that bloody chipped cup somewhere unpleasant, because Belle has meet one unexpected queen and she does not intend to meet another.
So this time, Belle leaves Rumpelstiltskin sulking in his own dungeon and quite calmly retrieves the travel pack from her closet—borrowed from another room in the castle some time long ago (just in case) and forgotten until now. She packs three of her simplest dresses and an extra cloak.
The wretched gold monstrosity she leaves behind, but not before she drops a note in the pocket. Rumpelstiltskin will come looking for souvenirs, she knows. Maybe not tomorrow, or even within the week, but he will once it stops feeling like he’s proving her right.
But he is proving her right, and Belle bloody well wants him to know it.
